HAWK pumps are now available in our online shop We are pleased to announce that pumps from the well-known Italian manufacturer Hawk are now part of the permanent range of our online shop.
Hawk NMT-CW pumps (the Car Wash series) can operate at a maximum pressure of 200 bar and water temperatures of up to 65 °C. This makes this version an ideal choice for self-service car washes as well as professional pressure washers. Thanks to special seals and a nickel-plated manifold housing, the manufacturer has improved the pumps' protection against chemicals, ensuring a longer service life. See the offer now!
How to match a pump to your car wash
Choosing a pump for your car wash should start with checking the parameters of your motor. You will be interested in two parameters: power and speed. You will find them on the motor's rating plate.
In car washes, motors usually have a power rating of between 2.2 kW and 4 kW. Higher power means you can achieve higher pressure at a given pump flow rate or, to put it the other way round, run at a higher flow rate at the same pressure.
The motor speed is most likely 950 or 1400 revolutions per minute (rpm), as 4-pole or 6-pole electric motors are used. A higher motor speed means more pump strokes in the same time, i.e. a higher water flow rate.
If you have a low-power motor of around 2.2 kW, look for pumps with a low flow rate of 9–11 l/min. With more powerful pumps you will not achieve satisfactory pressure. 3 kW motors work very well with pumps with a flow rate of 12–13 l/min. More powerful 3.6–4 kW motors let you achieve the recommended washing pressure of 90–120 bar even with a pump flow rate of 15 l/min. Remember that the higher the pump flow rate, the better the washing quality – and the higher the cost of every minute of car wash operation.
Once you know the motor parameters, check the technical parameters of the pump and choose one that delivers the flow rate you need.
Finally, after matching the pump, choose the nozzle size for the spray gun using a high-pressure nozzle selection chart. Remember that choosing the wrong nozzle can cause faster wear of the high-pressure system or lower pressure than expected.
